MSOE History
At the turn of the 20th century, the rise of electrical and mechanical power created a high demand for engineers and technicians. To meet this need, Oscar Werwath founded the School of Engineering of Milwaukee in 1903. As a practicing engineer trained in European technical schools, Werwath envisioned an American institution focused on an applications-oriented curriculum.
From its inception, MSOE benefited from the support of business and industry leaders, who recognized the importance of a technical education in filling new engineering and management roles. This partnership has been a cornerstone of MSOE’s success.
Today, MSOE offers 15 bachelor’s degrees and 10 master’s degrees, serving 2,800 students from across the U.S. and around the world. With over 20,000 alumni, including nearly 2,000 entrepreneurs and company officers, MSOE continues to make a significant impact.
